La Mer The Moisturizing Gel Cream Review

LA MER The Moisturizing Gel Cream is described as an ultra-light edition of the original Crème de la Mer, that instantly refreshes and hydrates the skin, leaving a supremely soft finish. Created with the original concentration of Miracle Broth and exclusive Lime Tea found in Crème de la Mer, this gel-like texture and form preference delivers all the transformational benefits of the Crème, and is ideal for warm-weather climates and occasions when Crème de la Mer just might be considered too rich.

As a result, Skin is deeply hydrated, renewed and conditioned. Aging lines and pores are significantly less visible. Skin becomes softer, firmer, virtually creaseless. Sensitivities are calmed and soothed-redness or irritation is dramatically minimized. Skin dryness is healed. Oily breakthrough is inhibited. Helps protect against a wide range of external insults, giving skin the ability to focus energy on repair.

Usage: To activate the broth and release its key ingredients, pat a small amount between fingertips and press into your face, neck, even under the fragile eye area. Apply day and night.

Thoughts: A lightweight gel like formulae. There is no need to warm up the gel before application. The gel sinks into skin within seconds leaving your skin feeling fresh and not greasy. Skin becomes soft! The gel is really great to use prior to makeup application. Makeup application seems to be much easier with this product.

Unfortunately, the gel is not providing me with sufficient hydration even when I am in the hot humid tropics. Even with La Mer’s Hydrating Infusion, I still do not feel my skin is getting sufficient hydration. I sometimes get the occasional patches of dry flaking skin too. On occasions, I add a tinted moisturiser on top of the combination of Hydrating infusion + the gel and can feel my cheeks tightening. I did double check with the sa who sold me the gel and she says the gel is meant only if you have really oily skin type or for ladies staying in really hot humid tropics. If you happen to work in an air-conditioned environment, the gel wouldnt perform that well. Perhaps as I grow older (OMG! Cant believe I wrote this!!), my skin requires more hydration…I still prefer the original Creme de La Mer cream.
Comes only in the 60ml at a cost of £60.00 (approximate)  but I go through the 60ml  jar of gel much faster than the original creme which is available in two sizes – 30ml and 60ml. So cost-wise, I do believe the original creme is more cost-effective.

Verdict: Recommended only if you have really oily skin. If you have combination skin, you might wish to try out the Moisturising Lotion  or even the original Creme de La Mer cream.

Hope this helps!

  1. I used this over La Mer skin concentrate, it’s emolient enough for me that way; i also use this in the morning to facilitates make up application. The original cream was too time consuming to be used in the morning & too greasy for make up application, in my opinion.

    1. Hi

Yes, I do agree that makeup goes well over the moisturising gel.

Perhaps I need to try the concentrate. Is it any good? Does it provide the same result as the creme de la mer?

      Thanks for leaving a comment!

    1. Hi

I suggest considering your skin’s condition and your environmental conditions more than your age when deciding to purchase la mer moisturisers. if you skin is naturally dry or dehydrated or you live in a country that has four seasons and experience harsh winters or where the weather’s pretty dry, I would suggest trying La Mer.

      Hope this helps!
