Beauty Review: Lancome Ôscillation – Vibrating Infinite Powermascara

Description from Sephora:

“The first vibrating powermascara by Lancôme. This revolutionary mascara provides 7000 oscillations per minute for ultimate lash transformation. Press the button and experience a breakthrough sensation in application. In one easy new gesture, let the vibrating brush combined with an exquisitely smooth formula wrap every lash up to 360 degrees. With ÔSCILLATION Vibrating Infinite Powermascara, your lashes will instantly appear ultimately extended, exceptionally separated, and virtually multiplied in number.

MY REVIEW:

My lashes: Non-existent wimpy permanently pointed southwards stumpy short lashes that defy curls.

PRICE:

  • £27 for 8grams/8ml

SHADES AVAILABLE:

  • Black

PACKAGING:

  • Long slender black tube with a thin strip of gold on cap (see picture at top) that is the button for the vibration.

BRUSH:

  • Densely packed bristles that are short, stumpy and evenly placed.
  • The bristles are very soft…the whole brush is soft and bendable.

FORMULAE:

  • A really, really wet formulae that takes ages to dry.

EFFECT:

  • Clumpy spidery lashes…
  • Although the mascara brush does vibrate – I couldnt see it actually vibrating or felt the vibrations…rather i heard the vibrating noise.
  • Rather than using a zig-zag motion like traditional mascara, the vibrations are suppose to do that zig-zag motion for you.
  • Unfortunately the mascara brush only ended up depositing alot of mascara on my lashes so it became quite clumpy.
  • I tried to brush the clumps through with the brush head but its so soft that it couldnt do anything
  • I tried using it without the vibration mode and surprisingly it was much better – no clumps and could easily build on more coats.
  • Held the curl
  • But it did smudge…like in less than an hour after I had it on.

VERDICT:

I would recommend this only if you are curious like me (in case you dont know – curiosity killed the cat…).  Extremely expensive mascara.

Hope this helps!

Beauty Review: Kanebo Mascara 38°C Silk Performance

This mascara is produced by Kanebo Cosmetics Inc and made in Japan. There are two versions of this mascara

  1. Kanebo Mascara 38 °C Silk Performance
  2. Kanebo Mascara 38 °C Silk Performance (Separating and Lengthening)
Kanebo Mascara 39 Degree Silk Performance

Kanebo Mascara 38 °C Silk Performance

My Review:

PRICE: £15

PACKAGING: White tube with black cap

BRUSH: Conical shape brush with bristles place far apart.

SHADES AVAILABLE: Black and Brown

FORMULAE: A light formulae that resists sweat, tears and humidity. Formulae supposedly conditions lashes as well. Best of all, the mascara washing off only with water at or higher 38°C. Gently rub the lashes with the warm water and the mascara comes off in tubes.

EFFECT: Gives a really natural defined separated look on my non-existent wimpy permanent pointed downwards stumpy short lashes. However, does not produce any thickening effects nor does it really curl or hold a curl. I get a slight lift at the tips of my lashes.

Kanebo Mascara 38 Degree Silk Performance (Separating and Lengthening):

PRICE: More expensive £19++

PACKAGING: exactly the same. the only way to differentiate both is to look at the name tag.

BRUSH: The Separating and Lengthening version has a more densely packed brush.

SHADES AVAILABLE: Black and Brown

FORMULAE: The Separating and Lengthening version contains fibres (loads of them). Other than that it has the same light formulae that resists sweats, tears and humidity. It only washes off with water that is at or higher than 38°C.

EFFECT: Same as the non separating and lengthening one except it lengthens lashes.

Verdict

I highly recommend this mascara if you have trouble finding a mascara that does not smudge. I have loads of trouble finding mascaras that do not smudge on me! Even waterproof mascara smudges on me! The best part is the removal of the mascara! Real easy – just hot water which really saves time, money and you have one less item to carry when travelling!

Additional Information: This item is exclusive to Harrods in UK. I found this in a German airport as well. The interesting thing is I could not get this when I visited Asia. Apparently this belong to the Testimo range which has been discontinued. It is now reproduced as Lunasol (another range of Kanebo) called High Stylized Mascara.

Hope this helps!

Beauty Review: Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes Mascara

Givenchy PhenomenEyes Mascara. Picture from Sephora

Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes Mascara. Picture from Sephora

Product Description from Sephora:

“A revolutionary new mascara designed to grip at lashes starting at the roots. Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes Mascara perfectly curls and separates lashes. It has a high-tech, patented round sphere at the tip of the precision wand that reaches every lash and adapts to all eye shapes. It’s a Sephora exclusive. The result is a beautifully fanned-out panoramic effect, holding the curve of your lashes perfectly in place.”

My Review:

Price: £19.50 (i think)

Packaging: Chunky short black tube.

Brush: ermmm…medieval torture spiky round top brush (see picture above). Word of warning: It truly does hurt if you poke your eye with this! Must admit that brush allows mascara to be deposited at the roots.

Shades Available: Black, Brown

Formulae: A really, really wet formulae that takes ages to dry. Is clumpy. Requires lash comb.

My lashes: Non-existent wimpy permanent pointed southwards stumpy short lashes that defy curls.

Effect: Produces thickening effects but because its so wet, it has a tendency to make my curled lashes produced from my eye lash curler droop. Does not curl lashes on its own. Takes ages to dry too because its so wet, so there’s the tendency to end up with black lines underneath the eye especially if your lashes are the kind that points southwards. Can get away with eyeliner because the brush deposits mascara at the roots.

Verdict

I would recommend this mascara if looking for a thickening/volumising mascara and you wouldn’t mind fiddling with the application. By rights, this mascara especially with the brush head should allow easier curling of lashes or at least enable lashes to be pushed up at the roots. But i suspect the formulae is too heavy for my lashes so my lashes end up drooping from the weight. If you are up to carefully applying this mascara, it might work wonders for your lashes.

Hope this helps!

Product Description from Boots

What it is:The must-have cult mascara for a volumnising false lash effect.

What it does: An intense look in a single stroke with our must-have industry leading mascara. Its secret: the triple-film complex. A coating film for intensity, a conditioning film for curve, a fixing film for long-lasting effectiveness. Even the brush applicator combines nylon fibers of varying diameters for volume enhancement as never before.

My Review:

Price:£20.00

Packaging: Gaudy Gold Tube with a matte top and glossy bottom.

Brush: Fat densely pack brush

Shades Available: Black, Brown, Violet, Burgundy, Blue

Formulae: I had slight smudges at the outer corner of my eyes about 3hours after application. By night time I had raccoon eyes. Strangely although it smudges easily on me, I have to use a cleansing oil at night to completely remove it. The YSL SA (sales assistant) did suggest using a wash cloth to gently rub lashes to remove them – without using an oil base remover. However, this mascara contains rose fragrance which i think i am getting allergies from. i am kinda getting eyes that tense up…like they are about to pop. There is a tendency for my lashes to clump…its probably cos of the voluminising formulas so I really need to use a lash comb.

Effect: The mascara formulae is great because it really makes my lashes look so thick!! It kept the curl the curler gave my Asian straight pointed lashes BUT it smudged!!

VERDICT

This really gives volume to your lashes by really really thickening your lashes. Perhaps best for people who aren’t sensitive and have no problems with smudging. It does take time and effort on application to achieve lush separated curled false lashes look. But for all the cons, this mascara really delivers the promise of the false eye lashes look.

Hope this helps!
