2010 Oscar Fashion

I have read a couple of articles written about 2010 Oscar Fashion, describing the gowns as boring and safe… but hey…if boring and safe produces such lovely frocks as these year…there is really nothing wrong with being boring and safe and yet looking gorgeous is there?  ;Here are my thoughts on the gowns worn for the 2010 Oscars.

Favourite Dresses at 2009 Oscar and Vanity Fair Party

Here are my favorite dresses for the 2009 Oscars and Vanity Fair Party…I noticed most of the dresses pictured are either black or in shades of white/cream…

Tina Fey

An amazing dress that showcases her gorgeous figure and yet looks really glamorous as well. Love her subtle makeup and hair…One of my favourite looks of the night!

Anne Hathway

Gorgeous as usual…Anne seems to favour strapless dresses for red carpet events. Dress from Armani Prive with Cartier Diamonds.

Penelope Cruz

Penelope Cruz in vintage Balmain Couture wearing $3million-worth of Chopard diamonds. I know everyone like this dress but i think while it would be gorgeous for a wedding dress, I much prefer the dress she wore  at the Vanity Fair Oscar party…sleek and sexy…much more fitting for sexy, smouldering Penelope Cruz.

Close up of the sexy side split and sparkles highlighting the asymmetric one shoulder dress – very in, very sexy…absolutely drop dead gorgeous!

Christina Applegate

Another sleek sexy va va voom dress! A dress in white implying innocence and yet a very low cut v-neck dress with sparkles along the v-neck…paired simply with chandelier earrings and a slick clutch…gorgeous!!

Kate Bothsworth

Ultra sparkly dress that works because it is cut into a simple shift. Accessories, makeup and hair are kept simple and minimalistic letting the sparkly effect of the dress do all the talking.

Marisa Tomei

Marisa Tomei in Atelier Versace, with Van Cleef & Arpels jewels. While this dress covered the season’s biggest trends – asymmetric necklines and fishtail skirt – I think it looked a little fussy, with too much going on…much preferred her Bafta dress…

Jennifer Anniston

Fred Leighton jewels and a lovely beautiful gold embroidered strapless column gown courtesy of Valentino showcased Jen’s wonderful tan – gorgeous!!

Taraji P. Henson

I love this Roberto Cavalli strapless gown that was paired with a gorgeous Fred Leighton statement necklace and lovely diamond ring.

Kate Winslet

Asymmetric one-shoulder Yves St. Laurent gown paired with Chopard jewels was a hit with a lot of people but frankly it looked like she couldn’t decide what she wanted to wear and ending up choosing a dress that had the various elements she wanted. Plus the dress look like it had run out of fabric – insufficient lace for a full lace skirt. Much prefer her slick dress that she wore to the Golden Globes…

Kate Beckinsale

Kate is wearing a asymmetric one-shouldered dress from J.Mendel autumn 2009 which is very  trendy now. I love her style of dressing! Always simple clean lines with a twist. Here the simple clean lines of the dress gets dressed up with those huge sparkly chandelier earrings and gorgeous sparkly brooches on the dress. Beautiful!

Angelina Jolie

Angelina in a black strapless Elie Saab gown, emerald Lorraine Schwartz earrings, and a marvelous matching cocktail ring. The black strapless gown was boring but it did showcase her wonderful jewellery…a very glamorous look.

Marion Cottilard

Christian Dior-designed dress, complete with a sheer skirt and bedazzled bodice…again, I much prefer her choice of  dressing at the Vanity Fair Party.

Merryl Streep

I have always wonder what am  I going to dress like when I aged…Meryl Streep is my idol for this…she looks gorgeous for her age and dresses appropriately for her age – classic and glamorous and yet very subtle and chic…perhaps if she added more sparkles, it would take the simple dress from ok to wow! She is in custom Alberta Ferretti, Fred Leighton jewels and a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch.

Diane Lane

Diane Lane in Dolce & Gabbana and a Lauren Merkin clutch. A black strapless gown spiced up with gorgeous gorgeous jewellery! Glamorous and classic!

Black is probably a fail-safe choice but it might turn out slightly plain…so best bet would be to pair it with gorgeous jewellery.Whites/cream would also look equally gorgeous and glamorous if the dress has interesting details like loads of sparkles or ruffles…

2009 Baftas Looks by Lancome – Baftas Black Collection

‘The BAFTA Collection 2009: BAFTA Black” was created by Aaron de Mey, Lancôme’s Make-Up Artist Director According to the Selfridges website – The collection is inspired by the colours of the Baccara Black rose; BAFTA Black offers a captivating colour statement of red, black and all the burnt reds in between. The collection will be available from the 1st February 2009. (Am not too sure if the collection will be available in countries besides the UK).

“The overall look is cool and sexy with a sophisticated eye. Eyes should be gently smoked and can be made to look strong and sharp or subtle and soft. Either way this is a look to smoulder on the red carpet,” Aaron de Mey.

Aaron de Mey will be in store at Selfridges Oxford St on Saturday 7th February 2009 so head over to the counters!

Nutty’s thoughts:

I happen to walk pass the Lancome counter today and was totally mesmerised by that visual advertisement…that sexy pout with smouldering eyes and sexy just got out of bed hair caught my attention…I wanted to be like her!  So naturally I walked right up to the counter and started playing with the testers…

Shimmery Powder

Firstly, there was a huge black container that wasn’t round nor rectangular nor square – quite an unusual container which made me pick it up and quite nearly broke it…anyway it contains a white shimmer powder… see picture below.

Lips

Next I moved on to that red lipstick that just called out to me…its not red like in the pictures…more of a orange red or a tomato red…kinda like the colour Marilyn Monroe would wear…a 1940s classic red…

I tried the black lip gloss too…its black…with shimmers in it…I really cannot see how this black lipgloss will fit in with my makeup but am sure it would be great for layering lip colours which are too bright or for ladies who are really into the Gothic look.

That gorgeous pink lipgloss was not available for me to test.

Eyes

But what really got me interested was the eyeshadows…which I simply cannot find pictures off…there are 3 shades…all very shimmery and all very pigmented. They are a shimmery white, a shimmery black and a shimmery dark plum.  From the visual advertisement, it appears that the shimmery black was use to line the eyes, the shimmery plum in the crease and the shimmery white on the rest of the lids…there is also apparently a shimmery/glittery mascara available that can be used as a top coat or just at the tips for extra sparkle. There’s also a black glittery eyeliner pencil.

Nailpolishes

There’s also a shimmery black nail polish and a shimmery red nail polish…I didn’t get a chance to play with those testers…

Nutty’s Verdict

I am all for a glamourous red lips and smouldering black sexy eyes so naturally I LOVE this collection!

Hope this helps!
