2011 Oscar Hair & Beauty – Red Lips

2011 Oscar had different themes as seen in my Oscar Fashion post – 2011 Oscar Fashion. For Hair and Beauty, I noticed the following three themes…Red Lips; Smokey Eyes;  and Natural Glow. Have a look at the breakdown for ladies wearing red lips…

Anna Hathaway

To showcase her beautiful jewellery, Anna Hathaway had her hair gathered into an updo with soft wavy curls framing her face. Make-up Artist Kate Lee for Chanel explains: “Anne wore a red Valentino Couture archive dress on the red carpet. The look was centered around a thin black lined eye with a defined socket and a deep rose lip stain.”

To recreate Anne’s look, Kate says:

Base: ” I used Chanel Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Limpide, which I used throughout the show. For concealer, I used Kanebo Brush Type Concealer in CB 1 Light.

Cheeks: “To create a fresh glow on her cheeks, I used Chanel Powder Blush in Fresque, and defined cheek bones with Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium. I created a black line created with Bobbi Brown longwear gel liner in Black Ink. The eye socket was defined with Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadow in Truth, and I applied Chanel Inimitable Mascara in Noir.

Lips: “I used Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Rivoli, and lightly powdered over her mouth for a matte effect. In between changes I used By Terry Rose Salve to remove lip colors and keep lips fresh.”

Amy Adams

Amy Adams left her long hair loose with a slight wave. To compliment her midnight blue, shimmering L’Wren Scott column gown, make-up artist Molly Stern gave Amy a fresh-faced look with a pop of peach lipstick.

To recreate her look, Molly says:

Base: “Prepared her skin with the always glorious Jurlique Face Spray in lavender and Creme de la Mer to moisturise. For her base, mixed Creme de la Mer foundation with Josie Maran Argan Skin Illuminizer. Next, warmed up her cheeks with Josie Maran Color Stick in Petal Pink and highlighted her cheek bone with NARS blush in Sex Appeal.”

Eyes: A bright gold in the inside corner of her lid with NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in Hollywood Land then built out the depth with navy duo shadow from NARS in Bateu Ivre. Lined her lash line with Sue Devitt Eye Intensifier Pencil in Victoria Falls and added lots and lots of mascara in dark blue by Beauty Is Life.

Lips: Used Cover Girl Lip Perfection in #320 Soulmate with NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in Frivolous.

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock had her hair pulled back into a tight updo. Her Oscars look was a stunning combination of polished skin and stained lips. Make-up Artist Angela Levin for Chanel says: “My inspiration for Sandra Bullock’s look was glowing, princess, Hollywood glamour. Sandra represents elegance and simplicity, and I wanted her makeup to reflect just that.”

To recreate her look, Angela says:

Base: Prep the skin with Chanel Hydramax + Active Serum around the eyes, lips and cheeks. Over that, apply a bit of Chanel Sublimage Concentrate which creates a gorgeous, healthy complexion. For a base I use Chanel Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Clair. On the lower jaw line, chin, and forehead, add Chanel Mat Lumiere Luminous Matte Fluid Makeup in Clair. You want the glow to be focused on the centre of her face.

Eyes: Use Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Kaska Beige. Apply the darkest colour and the taupe colour, blending them very lightly, using only a small amount of shadow, and use a bit of the mauve shade under her lower lash line. Used Chanel Automatic Liquid Eyeliner in Noir to create a very thin, delicate line.

Cheeks: use Chanel Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Fuchsia.

Lips: apply Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Gabrielle with a lip brush, then rub your lips together, and apply again with the brush to create the look of a dark stain.

Thoughts: Perhaps its my eyes or my computer but Amy Adams looks like she has an orangey red lipstick on. I would never have thought of combining those shades  [orangey-red lips (or peachy) and green coloured jewellery] together with a  head to toe sequinned blue dress…all 3 colours are pretty bright and eye-catching. Between Anna Hathaway and Sandra Bullock’s looks, I much prefer Anna Hathaway’s look. Anna has  a much softer  look compared to Sandra…perhaps Sandra has her hair pulled back too much which emphasizes her strong jawline.
