2011 Oscar Hair and Beauty – Smokey Eyes

Welcome to Part 2 of the 2011 Oscar Hair & Beauty series. Previously,  I wrote about the red lips look at 2011 Oscar Hair & Beauty – Red Lips. The other beauty theme that I noticed for 2011 Oscar was Smokey Eyes. Presenting some of 2011 Oscar Hair and Beauty Smokey Eyes Looks..

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis’ has a side parting with her long hair pinned up in slightly messy curls. Make-up artist Tracey Levy opted for eyeshadow shades to really work with the delicate purple hue of her Elie Saab lace gown.

To recreate her look, Tracey says:

Base: “Prepare the face with Lancome Teint Miracle Lit-from-Within Foundation and dust her cheeks with Blush Subtil in Sheer Amourose,.”

Eyes: “I used the Lancome Color Designs 5 Pan Palette in Coral Crush around her eyes. Then I used Lancome Color Design Eye Shadow in Impress (a metallic dark brown) to add definition. Finally, I used Lancome Le Crayon Khol Eyeliner in Black and Hypnose Waterproof Custom Volume Mascara in Black.”

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett created texture to  her bob with slight waves. Her make-up artist said: “Scarlett was simply stunning in tones of gold and copper, offset with a sheer pink to accentuate her lips. She looked the epitome of the modern movie star.”

To recreate Scarlett’s look:

Eyes: were shaded and outlined using Dolce & Gabbana’s The Smooth Eye Colour Quad in Stromboli 130, with the darkest colour applied close to the lash line on the lid and beneath the eyeline. Copper and bronze hues were applied in the crease of Scarlett’s eyes and highlighted the inner corner with a smudge of the golden tone from the palette. Eyes were finished with a sweep of Dolce & Gabbana’s The Crayon Intense Eyeliner in Gold 3 and several coats of The Volumized Lashes Mascara in Black 1 for volume and definition.

Lips: For an effortless, natural glamour, The Ultra Shine Lipgloss in Candy 80 was applied to Scarlett’s lips. A light dusting of The Illuminator in Eva 3 completed the look

Halle Berry

Halle Berry had her short crop tousled. Make-up Artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua for Chanel: “Halle’s make-up look was inspired by the lightness and shimmer of her Marchesa nude crystal and tulle strapless gown.”

To recreate Halle’s look:

Base: Prep the skin with a mixed base of Chanel Mat Lumiere Matte Fluid Makeup shades – Honey, Walnut and Chestnut.

Eyes: Use warm browns on the eyes instead of blacks, and keep them shimmery and soft edged while defining them by smoking them up and lining the inner eye. Use Revlon Luxurious Smoky Eye Pencil in Brown Smoky, and Revlon Custom Eyes Mascara in Black.

Cheeks: To balance out the smoky eye but to still keep the look healthy and fresh, use peaches that are soft yet with enough color, such as Chanel Powder Blush in Horizon, on the cheeks.

Lips: Line the lips with Chanel Precision Lip Definer in Peche, a peach tone that has just enough brightness and definition, and apply Chanel Glossimer in Petit Peche.

Michelle Williams

Michelle Willams had her short crop slick and smooth. For her sparkling Oscars look, Make-up Artist Jeanine Lobell for Chanel explains: “My inspiration was Michelle’s stunning CHANEL 2011 Spring/Summer Haute Couture gown. The dress represented Michelle’s personality – ethereal and sparkling.”

To recreate the look:

Base: First apply Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup in B10 to the face, it allows skin to shine though the makeup and creates a fresh look. Set the makeup with Chanel Natural Finished Press Pressed Powder in Translucent 1.

Eyes: To create a light, ethereal smoky look, mix the shades in the Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Smoky Eyes. Use the silvery shade as a base, and then use the pewter shade, taking it from the lash line up into the crease, and add shape to the eye. Then smudge the same shade in the lower lash line. Use the black shade, blended into the pewter, as a liner.Apply a few individual lashes in the center, and a lot of Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir on the top and bottom lashes. Define the brow with Chanel Precision Brow Definer in Blond Claire.

Cheeks: To create a glowing pink cheek, apply Chanel Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Pink Tweed.

Lips: mix Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Rose Dentelle with a bit of the Vitalumiere Aqua foundation to create the effect of the lips blending into the face.

Thoughts: I did not like Mina’s lilac Elie Saab gown which she wore to the Oscars 2011 red carpet even though I love Elie Saab’s designs. But her hair and makeup was gorgeous! Scarlett used the same hues as Mina (brown smokey eyes and pink lips) but Mina looks much better than Scarlett…perhaps it was Scarlett’s hair that looked messy and unkept. I never paid much attention to hairstyles previously but I realised how one’s hairstyle is essential to the whole look. Take Halle Berry and Michael Williams  looks. Both have short hair cuts but Halle has hers style slight tousled to complement her dress thats quite romantic and flowy. Michelle has her short hair smooth and slick to complement her Chanel gown that has simple lines. I just adore Michelle’s entire look! Its perfection!!

What do you think? Which is your favourite look? Check out my reviews on some of the products used – Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation, Chanel Tweed Blush and Chanel Rouge Cocos.
