This is the final instalment of 2011 Oscar Hair and Beauty series. The other two instalments were – 2011 Oscar Hair & Beauty – Red Lips and 2011 Oscar Hair & Beauty – Smokey Eyes. Apparently, 2011 Oscar’s favourite look was a Natural Glow. Check out some of the really pretty natural glowing looks!
Natalie Portman’s left her hair down with waves gathered to one side. Her gorgeous Oscar-winning look was created by Dior make-up artists.
Base: Using DiorSkin in Nude, the artists prepped Nat’s skin and gave it that stunning glow.
Eyes: Long, lustrous lashes were created using Diorshow mascara in black.
Fragrance: as the face of Miss Dior, Natalie was wearing the delicious fragrance as she picked up her Best Actress award.
Hillary Swank kept her makeup natural – slightly defined eyes and pink lips with glowy skin and went for a stunning up-do created by Hollywood stylist Robert Vetica to match her strapless, beaded silver Gucci Couture gown for the Oscars 2011.
Robert explained:“My inspirations were the romantic, elegant styles worn by Hollywood film icon Grace Kelly, though this is very modern, not retro in any way. Simple and sleek at the sides, most of the volume was at the back of the head, and I created a different kind of chignon that was asymmetrical ‐‐ made with three interwoven sections of hair. I wanted the hair to look smooth and luminous, as if there was no product in it, and used shine‐enhancing styling products from Moroccanoil®. We accented the final look with Anna Hu platinum and diamond earrings that were worn in the hair.”
Nichole Kidman had her hair pulled tightly into a updo leaving bits of her fringe lose. Make-up Artist Angela Levin for Chanel says: “Nicole Kidman’s Oscar look was glamorous Hollywood with a Brigitte Bardot twist. She looked sexy and playful! Beautiful glowing pale lips, rosy cheeks, and glamour were my inspiration, concentrating on her beautiful eyes and gorgeous skin.”
To recreate her look:
Base: Use Chanel Sublimage Essential Regenerating Cream all over the face and neck, as well as on the shoulders and décolleté. As a base use ChanelVitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Ivoire.
Eyes: Use the dark shade from the Chanel Eyeshadow Duo in Bleu-Tendre feathering the shadow inward, creating a dark outer corner of the eye, for a bit of a 60s look. Then use the taupe shade in the Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Stupendous in the inner corner of the eye. From the Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Winter Nights, I use the medium, silvery taupe shade and sweep it on all over the eye using a round motion, blending all the shades together. For the eyebrows use the Chanel Brow Definer in Blond Clair, and two coats of ChanelInimitable Mascara in Noir, on both top and bottom lashes. Underneath the eye use a Sephora Nano Eye Pencil in Silver Green.
Lips: For the lips we chose Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Magnolia. Use the same shade of lip colour on the cheeks, dabbing the shade on the apples of the cheeks with your finger – one of my favorite red carpet beauty tricks!
Hailee Steinfeld looked so pretty and fresh with her natural look. To match her lovely ballerina inspired gown, she wore her hair in a bun, accessorized with a headband. Just perfect for the ballerina look. Make-up Artist Stephen Sollitto for Chanel says: “Hailee’s whole look was inspired by one pale pink shade of shadow in Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Mystic Eyes. The word ‘ballerina’ came to my mind when I saw this shade and thought how poised, feminine, young, soft and yet strong Hailee was, like a ballerina. When I arrived on Oscar day, she had a pale pink Marchesa dress and my ballerina inspiration came to life. It was our word for our look for the day.”
To recreate her look:
Base: Start by moisturizing with Chanel Beaute Initiale Energizing Multi Protection Cream. Let that sit for a minute then apply Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Skin Perfecting Foundation in Beige-Tendre all over the face with a damp sponge.
Eyes: Next work on the eyes by applying a veil of Chanel Professional Eyeshadow Base in Beige all over the lid. At the lash line only use Chanel Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Cassis. Go over this line to blend it out and soften its edges with the deep plum shade in Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Kaska Beige. Then use a pliable blush to apply the gold in the same palette underneath the bottom lashes, this will add some definition yet a softness to the eye. Top off the lashes with Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir.
Cheeks: For the cheeks, first start with Chanel Powder Blush in Espiegle in the hollows of the cheek bone. Then on top of this, layer Chanel Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Pink and drag this from the apples until you almost reach the nose for some continued color.
Lips: Apply Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Lip Colour in Fetiche (available in April) to the lips, and dot on a bit of Chanel Glossimer in Rose Dilemma for an extra pop of shine in the center of the bottom lip.
Gwneth Paltrow wore her hair down…smooth & straight. Make-up Artist Leslie Lopez for Chanel explains: “Gwyneth Paltrow is very regal looking, she reminds me of Grace Kelly. Her dress was a gorgeous gold Calvin Klein gown. I wanted her to look classic and beautiful, and at the same time approachable.”
To recreate her look:
Base: Prep the skin with Chanel Sublimage Essential Regenerating Cream, then use Chanel Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Beige as a base and apply CHANEL Long-Lasting Concealer in Beige Ivoire. To give a warmth to the skin, use Soleil Tan de Chanel in Terre Ambre.
Eyes: use Chanel Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow in Delta. Apply the shadow all over the lid, and use Chanel Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Trace in the crease. Then mix the brown and taupe shades in Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Mystic Eyes around the eyelid. Line the eyes with Chanel Precision Eye Definer in Brun and apply two coats of ChanelInimitable Masarca in Noir, concentrating on the outer corners to make the eyes pop.
Cheeks: On the apples of your cheeks, use Chanel Tweed Blush Duo in Tweed Fuchsia.
Lips: use Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Canotier, (available in April) and top with Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Insouciance.
Thoughts: Natural and glowy is the way to go! This is a very versatile look suitable for all occasions. Hailee Steinfeld, Hillary Swank and Nicole Kidman seem to carry off this look the best.
