The Royal Wedding: The Wedding Guest Outfits – What Not To Wear

The Royal Wedding was held at Westminister Abbey on April 29 2011. Some of the invited guests came dressed in their best…and some didn’t. Here’s a look at some of the more unusual outfits…

No hats?

Burberry green dress accessorized with hairclips and a necklace from Erickson Beamon for Erdem, nude Aldo pumps and an orange scarf.

Lovely green dress. But not wearing a hat at a wedding…especially a royal wedding?? and especially from the Prime Minister’s wife?? Its all the more surprisingly considering that her husband decided to err on caution and wear his formal coat tails to the event. Perhaps she should be getting some fashion advice from her husband?

The Mis-match

Miriam Gonzalez Durantez in a  silver dress with polka dot chiffon as she arrived at  on the arm of her politician hubby Nick Clegg. Elbow length gloves, towering courts and a colour pop orange floral turban finished off her look.

Obviously, she couldn’t decide what to wear…and she couldn’t decide if her dress or her hair accessories should stand out…so she decided to go with a ‘stand out’ dress and hat! A fussy grey dress with a black netting accessorized with black gloves, black heels, a big bright red flower on the head and a white clutch…the whole look seem confusing…

The Alien-looking Hats

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson wore head-to-toe blue, matching her royally-hued dress from Deborah Milner with a Stephen Jones hat and a clutch, gloves and Nicholas Kirkwood heels of the same color. Her jewels were by Asprey.

Ermmm…I know alot of writers love her hat. But it reminded me of the Alien that Susan Sarandon fought in the movie series  Alien.

Princess Beatrice wore a nude Valentino couture coat with a Philip Treacy hat and Jimmy Choo shoes

Princess Beatrice’s hat…and that’s stretching the “term” a little…I must admit that architecturally, it is a very interesting shape! I have no idea how you can mould fabric/materials into that design…

And it didn’t help with the heavy eye makeup which really made it her look scary….

The Ill-fitting Gab

Chelsy Davy wore a custom Alberta Ferretti aqua bias-reverse satin dress and a matching silk faille jacket with a Victoria Grant fascinator.

I love Chelsy Davy’s fascinator…but not the dress. She looked uncomfortable and the outfit didn’t seem to fit well.

Justine Thornton, who teamed a purple dress with cropped jacket and hat

I love hats…but not this one… The floppy structure of the hat was erm…a mess…it didn’t go well either with the outfit that seem floppy and full of creases too.

Princess Eugenie in a peacock-hued Vivienne Westwood ensemble, Philip Treacy hat and Solange Azagury-Partridge jewelry.

Princes Eugenie had a lovely hat that reminded me of the hats that Princess Anna loved to wear in the TV series The Tudor. I personally feel that she really should have gone with a much simpler outfit with that fancy hat and her top look pretty tight-fitting.
